Michael Gray from the Country Music Hall of Fame moderates a ninety-minute panel discusssion about two cultural icons: Johnny Cash and his friend and photographer Jim Marshall.
When Johnny Cash recorded his legendary prison concerts at Folsom and San Quentin in 1968 and 1969, Jim Marshall was the only official photographer present. He was granted unlimited access to Johnny, June, and the entire entourage. Marshall’s photos are a striking visual documentation of the significance of the performances that music lovers have come to revere through Cash’s landmark live albums.
The panel discussion will go behind the scenes to discuss the significance of the Cash's prison performances in the lives and careers of Johnny Cash and Jim Marshall. Panelists include John Carter Cash, Jim Marshall’s longtime assistant Amelia Davis, and writer-publisher Scott B. Bomar. Afterward, the panelists will be available to sign the new book "Johnny Cash at Folsom & San Quentin: Photographs by Jim Marshall.”
